Ideas on what part of a piece of jewelry this is from?

Description: I found this part of a piece of jewelry and have been wondering what it could have been. Hoped someone could id it for me. Appears to be brass? I don't think it is heavy enough to be gold. It is probably pretty old as the homes in the area are turn of the century and other early pieces of ceramic, glass, and even prehistoric pottery have come out of my yard. Thanks for any help you can give.
