Is this a Newel Post or...?
Post measures 30" tall, and has a 6"x6" footprint at the base. All sides are identical, there are no holes anywhere on the post, at the top, or on the underside.
Wood on the underside of the base is raw, unfinished and appears to be oak. Entire post appears to be covered in hammered tin or copper, affixed with small nails. There appears to be a clear finish that shows patina on most of it, with black paint in some areas.
There are very intricate metal embellishments in the form of punched tin strips, also affixed by small nails. There are no stamps or markings of any kind.
This was found in an antique store in Cannon Beach, Oregon, on Oregon's north coast.
Store owner/buyer said that it was purchased at an estate sale in a home on the east coast, along with several other antique pieces.
I have more photos if needed, any help identifying this is greatly appreciated! I have searched for hours on end and can't seem to find anything even remotely similar.
Thanks a bunch for your help!
