Description: This item has these marks: TWD, lion passant guardant, a gothic, lower-case "h," the town mark of London, and the profile of Queen Victoria. These provide the maker's name of Thomas William Dee and it was made in 1863.

It is about 3 inches long, hinged on one side and is held together by a pin on the other side opposite the hinge. When the pin is removed, the item opens with 4 shallow holes on each side with a dividing leaf between the two sides. It is inscribed with: "Dismore Bold St., Liverpool" on the inside face of one of the sides.

The outside of this is shiny and the interior faces are relatively shiny, but the shallow holes are very brown. (I have not polished the item and won't until I know what it is.) This may mean the items that would have been stored in the holes tarnished the silver through contact.

I don't know anything about the history of the article that would be useful. I've had it for years and would love to know what it is. I thought it might be a man's vinaigrette, but not likely. I've been told it held "caps" for old style British firearms, but I've found nothing when searching the internet. Coin/token holder, perhaps?
