Identify Glass Counter Jar / Canister with Tin Lid for appraisal

Description: I have a small collection of antique class counter candy/biscuit jars with tin lids. I don't know a lot about them but I truly appreciate their uniqueness. Unfortunately I just moved and my movers broke my favorite one. For my claim appraisal I need to provide information about it but I can't seem to find another jar like it on the internet, and I have tried! This one seems especially unique because of the ridge indentation around it and that its oval instead of round. It stood up straight and did not lean. Before it was broken it was in excellent condition.

Can anyone please give me more information about what this jar was used for and its origins/value? I would truly appreciate it, both for my appraisal but also for my own knowledge as a young amateur collector.
