I wanted to buy them as gifts but I am curious as to how to identify them as antique or repros. Some are Brass, bronze or copper and still function. The are all over ebay for under 12 bucks usually. I cant find info online about appraisal of asian locks or how to tell if they are old or not...

Nearly all of the Chinese locks that are sold on ebay are of recent manufacture. Since locks are craft items and mass produced, and not considered unique art pieces, there are no fake products.
Finding and authenticating actual antique locks that are decades or centuries old becomes more difficult without physically inspecting the item. If all you are looking for are nice display pieces, then these recently manufactured locks are a good value. Most of them should run about 5 - 10 dollars each, with some of the more elaborate locks selling for much more.
